Australians could be able to save 20 hours of travel time for their European getaways in the future, with new research funded by the UK's Civil Aviation Authority exploring space flights.

In order to significantly cut the length a flight from Sydney to London by about 20 hours, passengers will have to travel through space.

FALLON / AFP The CAA research facilitated by the UK's Royal Air Force and conducted with King's College London recorded data which reveals the impact of suborbital space flights on passengers and presents potential risks.

"What we're trying to do in research is determine which individuals might be more susceptible and what we might have to screen them for."
