Three of the four men who died in Wednesday’s horror smash in northern Victoria were “ejected” from the car, according to police, with officers investigating whether the passengers were wearing seatbelts.
The crash occurred in Pine Lodge, east of Shepparton, about 4.45pm on Pine Lodge North Road – near the intersection with Cosgrove-Lemnos Road – when a Peugeot collided with a Toyota Hilux towing a trailer.
The driver of the Toyota Hilux ute – a man in his 20s – was not seriously injured and stopped to assist at the scene. He was later transported to Goulburn Valley Health Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries, according to Ambulance Victoria. “It’s rare that people get ejected when they’re wearing seatbelts. So we can’t stress enough the importance of wearing a seatbelt.”
“I had to place several phone calls before council cut the grass there,” one person wrote. “It needs to be offset so people can’t fly through it.”
