Dr Ryan says the 'misogynistic, racist and threatening' letters began arriving in the mailboxes of some of her campaign supporters three weeks ago.
Independent Kooyong MP Monique Ryan has told police threatening letters have been sent to a number of her supporters following her election to federal parliament.
Dr Ryan said the "misogynistic, racist and threatening" letters began arriving in the mailboxes of some of her campaign supporters three weeks ago. "It is extremely disappointing that people are being targeted for exercising their democratic rights," she said in a statement.Dr Ryan, one of the "teal" independents who unseated Liberal MPs from formerly safe seats, said her team had contacted Australian Federal Police about the mail.
She said they had advised anyone who had received a threatening anonymous letter to contact Victoria Police, and give them the letter and any relevant security camera footage if it was available.
