An independent report into Queensland Children's Gender Service found no evidence of patients being "hurried" to make decisions, and said staff dedication was "commendable".An independent report into Queensland Children's Gender Service has found no evidence patients or their families were "hurried or coerced" into decisions about medical intervention, and recommended significant staff increases to meet demand.
But the panel of seven, led by Queensland psychiatrist and associate professor John Allan, found the service to be safe with "no evidence of children, adolescents or their families being hurried or coerced into making decisions about medical intervention".They found the service provided "effective care from referral to discharge" and the unit's clinical practice to be consistent with national and international guidelines.
"Despite these challenges, the panel observed a commendable level of dedication within the service, evident in the staff's unwavering focus and commitment to patient outcomes," the panel's report said.Dr Allan said the panel had recommended a boost to staffing to help decrease the gender service's waitlist and allow young people to access the clinic sooner.
"There are young people suffering. We need to give them services. We need to think very carefully about what we do and to make sure that it is evidence-based, and it is appropriate to their situation." "Queensland is home to a proud and vibrant trans and gender diverse community, and the Miles government is committed to ensuring that they have access to safe, responsive, contemporary healthcare services."A review into how children with gender dysphoria are treated in England has been released.
