A review into WA's handling of COVID praises frontline workers, but makes more than 30 recommendations to prepare the state for the next pandemic.
"Businesses were often informed of restrictions that impacted upon them via press conferences, as opposed to being engaged directly," one section reads.
"There were also organisations which reported being engaged by government too late in the pandemic, including Aboriginal community-controlled health organisations," the report reads. The review found the border controls were "highly successful" at reducing COVID infections and allowing life with fewer restrictions, particularly at the start of the pandemic.
"Of course we acknowledge that some of those decisions impacted individuals negatively, but those decisions were taken to protect the wider community and this is the key, defining role of government. The review urged governments to "continue to ensure that the process for granting exemptions is clear, transparent and widely publicised and that exemption criteria are consistently applied".
