Professor Tom Calma has been named Australian Senior of the Year with the Indigenous elder having worked for more than 45 years fighting for the welfare and rights of Indigenous communities.
“I’ve done many things, and a lot of it’s been around education, both early years education right through to higher education,” he told Sky News Australia.
“I served as an Australian diplomat over in India and Vietnam and that was all about education and opening up the international student market, to being involved in a whole lot of policy reform,” he said.
