Former NSW Aboriginal Land Council chair Roy Ah-See has vented his frustration over the bureaucratic red tape which has seen 'hidden agendas' wield Indigenous culture as a political tool.

Former NSW Aboriginal Land Council chair Roy Ah-See has erupted at Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek 's decision to"knock back" a $1 billion gold mine , arguing his culture had been"hijacked" for hidden agendas.Former NSW Aboriginal Land Council chair Roy Ah-See has vented his frustration over the bureaucratic red tape which has seen"hidden agendas" wield Indigenous culture as a political tool.

“At the end of the day, what’s happened here should be concerning for industry and it should be concerning for other sectors, but more importantly, for the structure of our local Aboriginal land councils,” he said. Mr Ah-See strongly rebuked the decision as the Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council “doesn’t oppose the mine”, with Regis Resources having jumped through the many hoops of approvals.

The former NSWALC chair added the setting up of traditional owner corporations was “disingenuous” after the Wiradyuri Traditional Owners Central West Aboriginal Corporation had advised the minister against the mine. “And here we’ve got a minister who’s knocking back a billion dollar mine that could create economic empowerment for my people.”

The environment minister aligned her decision with the lobbying made by the Wiradyuri Traditional Owners Central West Aboriginal Corporation which said “sacred songlines” ran through the Belubula River.
