Indonesia has started evacuating people living near Semeru volcano in East Java exactly one year after its last eruption, which killed 51 people.

Nearby villages were being evacuated, with no casualties or injuries immediately reported.

Most residents in the two most-threatened villages have evacuated themselves, said Patria Dwi Hastiadi, spokesperson of the Lumajang Disaster Mitigation Agency.
