Industrial umpire orders NSW transport workers to abandon strike | Mattonews Rabe9
Thursday’s planned strike was to have been separate from the ongoing industrial action by members of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union, which has disrupted the state’s rail network. In contrast, the transport workers who had planned to strike hold a diverse range of roles, which will disrupt work on roads and other transport services in a variety of ways.
“These men and women worked tirelessly to keep our state moving during recent bushfires and flood catastrophes,” he said. After initially refusing to work on any overseas built trains as part of ongoing industrial action on Wednesday and Friday, the union had agreed to staff two international models. Rail unions and senior transport officials will return to the Fair Work Commission for a full hearing on Thursday following an application by the government to terminate ongoing industrial action.
“We head to the Fair Work Commission [on Thursday] and the point I’ve made is that we have worked and engaged very closely and deeply in respect of having a fair and reasonable response and approach to this. We’ve made concessions.”
