Grief, remembrance and quiet moments of reflection characterised a Black Lives Matter rally attended by about 2500 people in Sydney on Sunday before ugly scenes broke out between police and protesters who decided to march on.
Another banner bore on one end an image of George Floyd who was killed when he was arrested by police in Minneapolis in May. At the other end was an image asking for justice for David Dungay, a Dunghutti man who died in Long Bay jail in 2015 after he was forcibly removed from his cell.Mr Dungay's nephew Paul Silva attended a similar rally in Kempsey on Saturday. He told a crowd of about 300: "David Dungay Jnr died the same way George Floyd did.
