Inner-city residents will be given after-hours access to Sydney Grammar’s planned $54 million sports centre in a move that could put pressure on other private schools embarking on major capital projects
Inner-city residents will be given after-hours access to Sydney Grammar’s planned $54 million sports centre, in a move that could put pressure on other private schools embarking on major capital projects.
As part of the approval, the school was ordered to allow some Darlinghurst and Paddington residents in three neighbouring streets access to the complex for at least eight hours per week, in the evenings and on weekends. “We will lose green and distant views, our light, sunlight and the only free warmth in winter,” she said.
Woollahra councillor Harriet Price – who with Greenwich raised residents’ concerns with planning authorities and advocated for some community use – said allowing some residents access to the complex was “a sweetener” and would not mitigate the impacts of the development.Price has previously said the centre would have a devastating impact on views enjoyed by local residents.
