A provisional inquest into the death of a dad killed by a hit-and-run driver - having been left three miles from home by police - has been set. Gareth Roper was arrested at his home in the early hours of New Year's Day, 2022.
Nine minutes later, the father-of-six was de-arrested and left outside the Iceland store in Platt Bridge in Wigan. He was left barefoot, without his phone and with no money.He was captured on CCTV footage moments before the deadly crash walking down Lily Lane towards his home. In the footage he is seen whistling and clapping while walking barefoot on the double painted white lines in the middle of the road with his jumper tied around his waist, Bolton Crown Court previously heard.
