Tom Robinson's record setting adventure across the Pacific changed him forever. Now he's hoping to inspire other young Australians to follow their dreams.
When Tom Robinson speaks about his life, it feels as though you're reading an adventure novel from last century.
"I became more at peace with myself and the world around me, and just so happy that I was out there," he tells triple j Hack. With a tiny cabin to protect him from the elements and a storage compartment for five months worth of food, Maiwar had everything Tom needed. "I stepped ashore and I shook hands with all of these people and they said, 'Tom, welcome to our island, you're the first international boat in three years.'""The mayor came up to me and said, 'I would like to inform you Tom, that you are no longer Tom Robinson.'"
"I questioned it all and I wondered whether I was ever going to see the break of dawn or see anyone ever again.Luckily help was on the way but it wasn't who Tom had imagined.
