F1: Lando Norris' attempt to celebrate with the fans didn't go to plan after he copped an accidental knock to the face following his victory at Silverstone

His championship hopes were slipping not just with his points deficit but with the growing list of unforced errors that was allowing his teammate to amass a title lead .Fox Sports, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every practice, qualifying session and race in the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship™ LIVE in 4K. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1.His title deficit has been slashed from 22 points down to just eight points in a little over a week.

Even a minor change to any of the results of the preceding 12 rounds could turn the Australian’s lead into a deficit to his teammate. His two wins on the bounce aren’t just nice numbers. To achieve them he’s had to tick some key boxes for the first time. And that was especially meaningful given his crash in Canada one round prior, the nadir of his campaign.

“People talk about probably too much,” he said. “It could be that it’s helping me — and when I say helping, it’s helping me by hundredths, thousandths. Whatever the case, there are reasonable grounds to think Norris has found a new level of consistency. And while you could argue that Norris’s recent successes have given him the ascendancy, momentum doesn’t have to be zero sum. A close look at Piastri’s performances show no drop-off to coincide with Norris’s resurgence.

Though the championship tally cares not for would’ves and should’ves, these examples serve to highlight that Piastri isn’t suffering from some chronic drop-off in form to coincide with the 14-point bite taken out of his title lead. “The whole team did a really good job. The car was obviously mega — and, giving myself credit, I feel like I did a good job today.Piastri’s good form should carry him well into the coming races.

The reverse side of that coin might suggest he’ll be vulnerable in the final flyaways, but Piastri comprehensively put that idea to bed in the pre-European phase of the season, when he banished the demons of previous years to outperform Norris in four of the six opening rounds. He finished behind his teammate only in Australia — he was arguably faster there but caught out by the rain — and in Japan, where he also looked quicker but where there was no overtaking.
