The city of Sydney will finally drag itself into the 21st century with an impressive new major sporting and entertainment venue as Allianz Stadium prepares to open its doors on Sunday.
The 42,500-seat stadium will play home to the Sydney Roosters in the NRL, NSW Waratahs in Super Rugby and Sydney FC in the A-League, but it will also be home to the Socceroos, Matildas, Wallabies, Kangaroos and Jillaroos for international male and female fixtures across the respective three codes. The night after the NRL game the Wallabies will take on South Africa in a rugby union Test match, before the Matildas run onto the pitch for the first time in a friendly against Canada on September 6. Sydney FC will play Melbourne Victory in the A-League two nights later.Fans will get the opportunity to take a look at the new facility this Sunday with a range of community events headlined by a performance from Guy Sebastian.
