. As Vladimir Putin’s missiles rain down, experts are scrambling to learn more about the injuries and train up doctors on the ground.
The new Centre for Paediatric Blast Injury Studies brings together experts in medicine, engineering and humanitarian crises: housed at leading research university Imperial College London, it is funded by aid organisation Save the Children. Together, they are researching the impact of the blasts on children, boosting the quality of first aid and designing new ways of treating the injuries long term.
“I meet kids every time I go to the field who have been affected physically and also the mental health impact of the conflict. It’s tragic. They had nothing to do with this war, which was caused by adults and politics,” she tells“Over 1,400 children have been affected, and its so important that medical doctors in Ukraine know how to treat these injuries in children. It’s very different to when an adult is affected by a blast injury.
