Insidious: The Red Door's Rotten Tomatoes score is slowly sinking toward the bottom of the franchise even as its box office prospects look bright.

Insidious: The Red Door's Rotten Tomatoes score has settled into an underwhelming result. The movie, which opened in theaters on July 7, is the fifth entry in the franchise that began with James Wan and Leigh Whannell's original Insidious in 2010. The new movie, which was directed by returning star Patrick Wilson, follows Josh Lambert as he and his son Dalton are plagued by repressed demons after he drops Dalton off at college.

As the movie's opening weekend has progressed, Rotten Tomatoes has updated its score. Although the Insidious 5 Rotten Tomatoes score originally premiered at a Rotten but comparatively solid score of 47 percent, it has since sunk to 37 percent as more reviews have been added. It is now the second-lowest-rated movie in the entire franchise, just ahead of 2018's Insidious: The Last Key, which stands at 33 percent.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Audiences Are Responding To Insidious 5 Anyway As more and more reviews have been added from both critics and audience members, the Insidious 5 score has fluctuated on both sides. However, even though the movie now has more than 500 reviews from audience members, its audience score has remained incredibly strong at 71 percent.

The Insidious 5 box office has also had a solid opening weekend. The movie just knocked Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny from the No. 1 slot this weekend, nabbing the second-best opening for a 2023 horror movie behind Scream VI. It was also the second-best opening weekend of the entire franchise behind Insidious: Chapter 2 in 2013.

One potential reason for this strong audience turnout could be the Insidious 5 cast. Insidious: The Red Door marks the first time that the main characters - also including Rose Byrne's Renai and Lin Shaye's Elise - have all reunited in the same movie since Insidious: Chapter 2. Considering the fact that a decade has passed since that movie's release, the new Insidious seems to be harnessing nostalgia for the original iteration of the franchise, to mostly powerful results.
