A top advisor and Investment NSW’s most senior lawyer have been called to appear before an inquiry as documents about John Barilaro’s appointment to a US trade post are sent to ICAC.
John Barilaro’s former adviser and the top lawyer at Investment NSW have been called to give evidence to an upper house committee examining the former deputy premier’s appointment to a prestigious US trade post, as the state’s corruption watchdog weighs up an investigation into the fiasco.
The premier addressed the media as a trove of documents tabled for the committee by Ms West went public and revealed how far Investment NSW staff had advanced the preparations for her to take the trade post in the US before it was rescinded in September 2021. An ICAC spokeswoman declined to respond when asked whether it would pursue the issue for investigation after receiving the documents.
Mr Perrottet said he would immediately adopt any measures recommended by the investigation. “It’s important there is public confidence in any government … there are proper processes that need to be followed,” he said. “Mr Brayford made it clear that the deputy premier wanted to know the various mechanisms for which STICs [senior trade and investment commissioners] could be appointed,” Ms Brown told the hearing in early July.
As the Perrottet government continues to weather pressure over the appointment and revelations of the poor treatment of a highly regarded public servant, Opposition Leader Chris Minns accused the government of handing out jobs for mates.
