One south-east Queensland council is in a pay dispute with unions, which could see tens of thousands of bins left uncollected until next year.
They were supported by members of the CFMEU, Australian Workers Union , Federal Labor MP Shayne Neumann and newly-elected state Ipswich West Labor MP Wendy Bourne.
He said the council was spending millions on the Nicholas Street redevelopment, a long contentious project within the city, but "couldn't pay that perform critical work fairly". Council's acting CEO Matt Smith said it was disappointing the union was rejecting the "fair and reasonable offer". "It's disappointing that these three unions are continuing interruptions to residents' bin collection services.
