Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi says if former US President Donald Trump does not face justice for the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani, he will seek his own revenge:

Supporters of the Shiite Hezbollah movement hold posters of slain Iranian major general Qasem Soleimani in the Lebanese capital Beirut.Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi vowed revenge against Donald Trump unless the former United States president is tried over the killing of Qassem Soleimani, as Tehran marked two years since the revered commander's death.

Mr Raisi, addressing Tehran's largest prayer hall, said: "The aggressor and the main assassin, the then president of the United States, must face justice and retribution" alongside former US secretary of state Mike Pompeo "and other criminals". Washington said at the time that General Soleimani was planning imminent action against US personnel in Iraq, a war-battered country long torn between principal allies Washington and Tehran. The night-time strike destroyed a convoy carrying General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy leader of Iraq's Hashed al-Shaabi coalition of pro-Iranian armed groups, and others.

Commemorations were held this year across Iran as well as at Baghdad airport, in the holy Iraqi Shiite city of Najaf, in Gaza City and elsewhere. Photos obtained by AFP from the coalition official show remains of one of the drones, with the message "commanders' revenge operations" written on it.Hackers also attacked media in Iran's other sworn enemy country, Israel, with a threatening message that appeared linked to Qassem Soleimani's killing.

Israel fears Iran's nuclear programme aims to acquire weapons to harm the Jewish state, and the two countries regularly issue hints threatening strikes against one another.
