Anne and Audie Ryan-Murphy were greeted at the airport last night by border force officials and questioned for ten hours, before being detained at the Hyatt Hotel in Perth's CBD.
The Irish couple decided to make the 19-hour journey to Perth to meet their granddaughter for the first time, thinking they had all the right approvals to make their reunion dream come true.The Irish grandparents were stopped by border security and told they would not enter WA due to inadequate vaccination requirements."It breaks my heart.The pair told 9news that border force officials said they should never have been allowed on the plane in the first place.
The Ryan-Murpheys timed their arrival to help their son and daughter-in-law who is due to give birth to their second child, any day now.Exhausted by the whole ordeal, the family are pleading with the government for an exemption. "It's just so hard to get your head around, that they're so close but will we ever get to see them? Will she get to meet them?"
