The IRS said nearly 1.5 million people are owed refunds totaling some $1.5 billion for tax year 2019. Included in those numbers are some 23,900 Alabamians who are owed some $23.7 million.“Time is running out for more than a million people to get their tax refunds for 2019,” said IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel in a statement. “Many people may have overlooked filing a 2019 tax return due to the pandemic. We don’t want people to miss their window to receive their refund.

Even if you are owed a refund, there are things that could prevent you from receiving the money. A 2019 refund could be held if a taxpayer has not filed returns for 2020 and 2021, the IRS said.
