Western-backed fighters who have surrounded the last patch of territory in Syria occupied by Islamic State say they have now entered the jihadist group's abandoned camp inside the village of Baghouz.
More than 10,000 civilians have been evacuated from the town in recent daysThe fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces said the Islamic extremists were confined to a tiny piece of land under a mountain outside the village.
SDF spokesman Mustafa Bali estimated that up to 1,500 die-hard jihadists were trapped inside the pocket. "The clashes are continuing, the operation will continue until Baghouz is liberated, and until the end of the terrorist military presence in that area," he said.
