Isobel Vlahiotis stood frozen. Her finger hovered over her phone, as she silently read the breaking news report, over and over again. An image of a car resting in bush on the side of an Adelaide highway, was etched in her mind. She quickly screenshot the bulletin image and texted it to her family group chat. “Surely this isn’t anyone in my family,” Isobel tells 7Life of the text message she sent her sisters. “I was concerned but at the same time I was trying to think.
She sent the news article to her family before picking up the phone and calling her mum. “Mum was confused,” Isobel explains. “When I asked if everyone was there, she said yes - she must have thought I meant dad. “And I could hear the TV on in the background and thought it was Odetta and dad talking.” Isobel let out a sigh of relief and hung up. But about an hour later, she picked up her phone again - to find 10 missed calls from her mum. Just then, her husband rang.
