Israel has released the first group of Palestinian prisoners in response to three Israeli hostages being freed by Hamas in the first phase of the ceasefire agreement.

Romi Gonen, 24, Emily Damari, 28, and Doron Steinbrecher, 31, were kidnapped on October 7, 2023, along with hundreds of other people when terrorist militants stormed into southern Israeli towns, shooting and firing rockets in a surprise attack.The ceasefire deal, which was agreed to over the weekend by both parties, will also see some 1,900 Palestinian prisoners freed in return for 33 Israeli hostages over six weeks.
Israel's prison service confirmed six hours after the release of the women, the first 90 of the Palestinians prisoners were let out of Ofer prison, in the Occupied West Bank.Hundreds of families and supporters gathered around the vehicles outside the prison in excitement as they cheered and let off fireworks celebrating their freedom.Those inside the packed bus moved towards the front and made peace and victory signs with their fingers to loved ones, supporters and the world's media.
