Foreign Secretary James Cleverly confirmed on Saturday morning that trucks carrying lifesaving aid are beginning to cross Rafah into Gaza - but Hamas warned it 'will not change the catastrophic medical conditions in Gaza'.
The Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt has now opened, allowing desperately-needed aid to enter the Gaza Strip. More than 200 trucks carrying roughly 3,000 tons of aid had been positioned near the Rafah border crossing for days before it was opened, following intense diplomatic negotiations. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly tweeted on Saturday morning: 'Trucks carrying lifesaving aid are beginning to cross at Rafah into Gaza. This aid is a lifeline for those suffering.
'You should assess your personal safety and security before choosing to move towards the border or trying to cross.' 'Continual flow of aid needed to deal with catastrophe' More than 2.3million Palestinians living in besieged Gaza, half of whom have fled their homes, have been forced to ration food and drink filthy water to survive.
