Israel's military massed troops on the border with Gaza as airstrikes pummeled the Palestinian enclave in the wake of Saturday's attack by Hamas.
TEL AVIV—Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin landed in Israel Friday to visit top Israeli officials as the U.S. pours munitions and other weaponry into Israel amid the growing conflict here.
Austin’s visit comes as Israeli officials call for civilians in the northern part of Gaza to evacuate to the southern section in the next 24 hours, a sign that Israel’s military forces are poised to begin their massive ground invasion of Gaza following Hamas’ attack Saturday. Austin is expected to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and the Israeli War Cabinet before viewing a fresh shipment of American munitions arriving in Israel Friday.
