Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirmed Galit Carbone is the first Australian citizen to have died in Saturday’s terror attack near Gaza.
Sydney woman Galit Carbone has died near the Gaza Strip border following attacks from terrorist group Hamas.“On behalf of the government, I wish to convey my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ms Carbone,” Senator Wong said.
“Australia unequivocally condemns the attacks on Israel by Hamas. There is no excuse for the deliberate killing of innocent civilians.“The loss of life from these attacks has been devastating and unacceptable. Australia has called for the attacks to stop and for the immediate and unconditional release of all those taken hostage.”
Ms Carbone, a 66-year-old grandmother, raised her three children and worked as a librarian in the kibbutz, which is located just 5 km from the border with Gaza.
