Israeli military tells media that it is trying to create ideal conditions ahead of a possible ground invasion of Gaza; Egyptian summit ends without statement.
The Hamas attack that killed 1,400 people may never have happened without Qatar hosting the terrorist group’s leaders and sending funds into Gaza, a senior Israeli official has claimed. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, described Qatar as “a terrible country”, saying that its support has allowed Hamas to thrive.
In 2017, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, now the prime minister of Qatar, said that “Hamas’s presence is coordinated with the US and the countries in the region, and it’s part of our effort to mediate between the Palestinian factions to reach reconciliation.” Qatar has also handed over hundreds of millions of dollars in humanitarian aid and reportedly funding for fuel and the salaries of public officials in Gaza over many years.
