The explosions mark the heaviest attack in Beirut in almost a year
Israel has reportedly targeted the leader of Hezbollah in a huge attack on what it said was the militia’s headquarters in Beirut – although sources have suggested he is still alive.
Sky News Arabia, Iran’s state-backed Tasnim news agency and Reuters have reported, however, that Nasrallah is in a safe place after the strikes, citing Hezbollah sources. “The Israel Defence Forces carried out a precise strike on the Central Headquarters of the Hezbollah terror organisation…taking the necessary action to protect our people so that Israeli families can live in their homes, safely and securely,” he said.
He said the headquarters was “intentionally built under residential buildings” in the Dahiyeh “as part of Hezbollah’s strategy of using Lebanese people as human shields”.
