The statement echoed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who last week claimed the military would"enter Rafah and we will eliminate the Hamas battalions there, with or without a deal, in order to achieve total victory". Ceasefire talks in Egypt collapsed on Sunday following Mr Netanyahu's remarks, after Hamas hardened its demands in an attempt to stave off an assault on the city.
