Israeli officials in Canberra have rejected false-flag conspiracy theories surrounding the recent stabbing aboard a FlyDubai flight, which Israel assessed as an attempted terror attack. Thousands of people across rural Victoria also reported feeling a shallow earthquake, while the NSW government disclosed that an OpenAI agent accessed publicly available information on a state government application.

Israeli officials in Canberra condemn conspiracy theories about the FlyDubai stabbing; Thousands feel an earthquake in rural Victoria; Heartbreak for Roosters utility Connor Watson, stood down from the NRL Grand Final. Thousands feel an earthquake in rural Victoria. The Israeli embassy in Canberra has condemned so-called 'false flag' conspiracy theories, it says recast victims as perpetrators, after the recent stabbing incident on a flydubai flight.

Material circulating online has suggested that the incident was staged, linking it to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's political prospects ahead of an upcoming election. But the embassy says the Israelis and Emiratis who intervened as the pilot was attacked in the cockpit are heroic - and that Israel has assessed as an attempted terror attack.

Coventry University Aviation Security Expert Philip Baum has said there are now issues to be considered by the sector, as the UAE completes its investigation into the matter.

"Radicalised pilots are an issue that the industry has to consider as a very real threat to civil aviation. And no, I don't want to undermine our faith in those people to whom we entrust our lives when we take off. And I don't want people to feel that aviation is suddenly unsafe because it's not. It's still the safest form of transport.

"Geoscience Australia says the quake hit shortly after two o'clock this morning at a depth of 10 kilometres. The NSW government has been notified that an OpenAI agent accessed public information hosted on another government web application in June. It says an OpenAI model accessed a National Parks and Wildlife Service web app that contained historical information and data on fires in the state.

Current investigations have not identified any unauthorised access to personal information, but inquiries are ongoing with Cyber Security NSW. It comes after OpenAI revealed a rogue agent accessed information earlier this year on multiple government platforms like Services Australia, the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics, the Victorian Department of Health, and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare websites.

Leaders of G7 nations have announced they will release up to 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil from emergency reserves, in an effort to stabilise world energy markets. G7 leaders issued a statement on Friday indicating the release will begin immediately and is being coordinated by the International Energy Agency over four months.

Earlier, United States President Donald Trump urged the European Union to draw down emergency diesel inventories, warning that failure to act could lead to a US ban on diesel exports. A statement issued by French President Emmanuel Macron's office called on producers to "refrain from imposing bans that could exacerbate market tensions".

"All of this sends a clear signal of G7 unity during this period, a desire to improve our production, our transportation capacity, and our ability to manage both stocks and trade cooperatively, which is very positive ... I will convene the G7 again in this format on this subject as many times as necessary.

He allegedly provided the location and operation of Ukrainian military activities to Russian forces as part of the country's ongoing invasion of its southwestern neighbour. Sydney Roosters utility Connor Watson will miss Sunday's NRL grand final after failing to receive the green light to return to play due to concussion.

He was due to play against his former club Newcastle, but under the NRL's concussion protocol, he faces a mandatory stand-down period of 11 days after being taken from the field during the Roosters' preliminary final win over the Dolphins. The Roosters had indicated that Watson was testing well leading into Thursday when the 30-year-old met with an independent specialist. Sign up now for daily news from Australia and around the world.
