Long COVID is costing the Australian economy at least $5.7 billion a year as tens of thousands are left unable to work by the debilitating disease.
The federal parliament’s inquiry into long COVID, which received almost 600 submissions, is due to report its findings shortly. ‘Mounting an appropriate response to long COVID is especially challenging … it cannot be ignored simply because it is inconvenient.’As a permanent part-time employee who worked just over three days per week, she was earning $1400 net per fortnight. She estimates she has lost about $9000 in income since January, not including any additional freelance work she would normally do.
