'It'll be dangerous': TV boss promises another nail-biting Eurovision decider as SBS unveils its final lineup of 10 artists vying to represent Australia

None of the shortlisted artists made an appearance at the inauguralsong contest. Paul Clarke, the director of Blink TV – the production company responsible for the Australian competition – says this wasn't a deliberate decision.Last year's runners up, electronic music duo Electric Fields, were invited back but didn't feel like they had a Eurovision-winning song this time around.

"We didn't push hard for there to be exactly the same artists this [time]," he added. "We wanted to start with a clean slate. But the spirit of [the previous] year will be there. We will have Kate Miller-Heidke performing as a tribute. In many ways, [next] year is stronger because the points of difference are broader. The songwriting might even be more powerful.

At Eurovision, Miller-Heidke donned a seven-metre long dress. She was also flanked by dancers balancing atop swaying poles. The Australian was widely tipped to do well at Eurovision but failed to make the top five.
