The ASX-listed private health insurance company has dubbed the time off as a “gift”.
Medibank is preparing to trial a four-day working week, dubbing the time off as a “gift”, as the health insurer becomes the latest ASX company to experiment with a scheme being increasingly embraced by employers across the country.
“To give you an example, one of the teams in my area in the experiment, their starting position was to clean their diary from all meetings … and be really intentional about what meetings are going back in for what purpose,” Medibank people and culture group executive Kylie Bishop said. The four-day workweek is one of several workplace initiatives under way at Medibank collectively titled Work Reinvented and aimed at challenging traditional ways of work while improving productivity.
Medibank’s experiment follows an announcement from Wesfarmers-owned Bunnings in May to trial different work models, such as a four-day week or a nine-day fortnight, for full-time workers in a first for the retail industry. She also said the trial size of 250 employees in an organisation of 4000 was too small to generate the necessary cultural shift to support the new working model.
