A Channel 7 star has been left in tears, revealing on live television she is battling cancer.

A Sunrise star has been left in tears as she revealed to viewers that she has been diagnosed with cancer in a bid to encourage Australians to get regular checks. Sunrise newsreader Edwina Bartholomew told viewers of the breakfast show just after 8am on Friday she had a personal update and it was"not great news".

A mammogram led to the discovery of a"few lumps" but it came back"all clear", however, a routine blood test returned with what she described as"levels out of whack".She told some of her on-air colleagues who have been rallying around her in the following weeks to ensure she was doing well and providing cooked meals.

Co-host Nat Barr expressed her sympathies and asked Bartholomew to explain what a day-to-day would look like for the mother-of-two to treat the cancer.
