With many locked out of the big one at the 80,000-seat Accor Stadium, the next best thing is watching the game at the club’s home ground. Fans got online at 10am to book a spot for the free event and the last ticket was bought about 180 seconds later.
The first 12,500 tickets went after one minute as fans were desperate to watch the Knights play in their first grand final since 2001. Meanwhile, motorists travelling south on the M1 on Sunday will see at least 22 Sid Fogg’s buses carrying fans to the match.
Sid Fogg’s has been synonymous with transporting the Knights and their fans to away games for decades and its manager Michael Habgood said it would have run more coaches had fans had more access to tickets to the game.
“But if we in Newcastle could get many more grand final tickets, we’d have a lot more people going down,” he said. “Last week we had 17 vehicles down at the preliminary final and after the final result, people were booking online, ready to go down this week. ” 30, September, 2026. “We carried the team and all the supporters in ‘97 and 2001. People still remember and there’s all the photos floating around where you can see people lining the streets out to the freeway from the stadium. People would just watch the team bus and all the other buses go out,” Habgood said.
“I remember last time, when the coaches came back the coach with all the players on it couldn’t move. There was just that many people, like a sea of people. ”
