that Planning Minister Anthony Roberts told a Property Council luncheon that one way to mitigate the rising cost of building materials, supply chain pressures and labour shortages was to return to seven-day-a-week construction.

However, the government is still investigating how guidelines could be changed to give councils more leeway to allow additional construction hours should they choose to do so. That may be of interest to councils in greenfield growth areas where there are no neighbours. “There is no doubt that the pandemic has been incredibly difficult for many businesses and residents, however, our residents deserve some respite from the ongoing development and construction in our local, highly densified areas and we must do what we can to preserve their amenity on weekends and public holidays,” they wrote in a draft letter to Perrottet.
