It started during a routine meeting between editors on Thursday, September 26. “We were having a conversation with the editor in chief, and I said, ‘Volker works at the university, let’s talk about his general involvement in this as a way to localize this national story to our community,’” Howard tells. He began asking university officials about Volker’s whereabouts, and that’s when he was informed of his resignation from the Trump administration.
“None of us [expected it to go viral]. We were just trying to do our jobs and get it out as quickly as possible,” says Howard.State Press , 20-year-old journalism major Adrienne Dunn, helped out with edits. Dunn posted it online and then to the’s official Twitter on Friday night. It went viral within minutes, much to their surprise, Dunn tells“A lot of the time, student journalists aren’t taken seriously,” says Dunn. “This proves the title shouldn’t be ‘student journalists’ — we’re just journalists.”Student journalists have made national headlines for their enterprising work time and time again over the last year.
