The 49-year-old, whose career has spanned 30 years and who was an Olympic sprint freestyler himself, posted a video saying he was “angry” at the race for a number of reasons. Pan beat his 26-year-old competitor Kyle Chalmers by 1.08 seconds. It comes after the Chinese national team found itself in the midst of controversy following revelations in April that 23 swimmers were allowed to compete at the Tokyo Olympics despite testing positive to small doses of trimetazidine in early 2021.However, Pan is not one of the group of 23, and Hawke made no explicit reference to the doping scandal while addressing the matter.
