The essence of sport might be a level playing field, but in Budapest there isn’t one. At the world athletics championships in Budapest the athletes are running down hill.
At last year’s world championships in Eugene, Oregon, the official qualifying height was 4.65 metres or at least the best 12 heights jumped. No one jumped more than 4.50m and four athletes got through clearing 4.35m. “It is potentially very good [for the final] but also it shows it is bringing everyone else up. These girls were jumping PBs out there and it was only a qualification. It’s fast, it’s hot and there will be some big heights in the final.”In an extraordinary few months last year Kennedy won bronze at the worlds, gold at the Commonwealth Games, then won the Diamond League.
“I think they definitely see me in the mix, but I think it will be who pieces it together perfectly Wednesday night.
