Thick steel spikes have been found hidden on tracks used by emergency services, including firefighters.
A number of steel spikes have been discovered hidden on tracks in bushland north-east of Melbourne, angering locals and emergency services who labelled the behaviour "reckless and dangerous".
"It was the second day into the trip when we ran over the spikes and that cut it pretty short," he said. "This reckless and dangerous behaviour poses a significant threat to members of the community who legitimately use forest roads for recreational activities, including four-wheel driving, trail-bike riding and horse riding," said Aaron Kennedy, assistant chief fire officer for Forest Fire Management Victoria's Hume region.
Wayne Heavey, the chief executive of Four Wheel Drive Victoria, also labelled the behaviour as irresponsible.
