Dima Abdu and her family had no idea the tower block they live in had been locked down until hours after it was suddenly announced by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Saturday. Some tenants of the nine Melbourne towers found out about the lockdown after it was announced to the mediaTenants are worried about the potential backlash from the wider community who might blame them for the outbreak

"We almost felt like everyone else in the state and city was being addressed at the same time and that was disappointing," Ms Abdu told 7.30.The 21-year-old student only realised what had happened when her mother, who was out, phoned her between five and six o'clock."I realised we were in complete lockdown, as in, can't go out for exercise, can't go get groceries or any essentials either — that surprised me.

The Abdu family live in one of nine tower blocks, housing 3,000 public tenants, which have been shut down. The Victorian government is concerned that may increase, and wants to test every single resident over the next three days. "I don't think we have an issue with the complete lockdown, we don't even have an issue with police presence," Ms Abdu said.
