Tennis star Matt Ebden will be on the first flight out of Melbourne on Sunday after his Grand Slam final but he could still miss his wife's birth as he is required to undergo two weeks of quarantine upon arriving home in Western Australia.

Matt Ebden will take the court alongside partner Max Purcell for a blockbuster Glam Slam match against fellow Aussies Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis on Saturday – just two weeks shy of his wife Kim’s due date.

Under the Mr McGowan’s border restrictions, Ebden will be required to undergo two weeks of quarantine.“I have a baby due in about two weeks so I’m skating on thin ice… this final means I’ll likely miss the birth of my baby now because the border rules changed,” Ebden told“It’s terrible. I left my wife about eight months pregnant at the end of December, knowing I could come back on the 5th of February.

He added that he does not expect special treatment but reiterated it was a “terrible” situation to find himself in.
