When former stylist Barbara Pelling purchased ‘Bergalia’, there were skip loads of rubbish to clean up. Now, it looks completely different.
Built in the 1930s, any original charming features of the double brick duplex had been ruined and there were skip loads of rubbish to dispose of and graffiti to clean up.The former stylist had been on the lookout for a renovation project, and was determined to reinstate the 90-year-old property and bring it up to today’s standards.
Pelling engaged Jitka Jankovec to draft her designs and building company Coastal Timberworks executed her vision.“I wanted to maintain the integrity of the original duplex and restore it to true Manly architecture,” she said. It became apparent when renovating that all the electrics and plumbing had to be replaced, and getting underfloor heating in the en suites turned into a complicated engineering exercise.
“[We’re] very satisfied that we’ve achieved what we set out to do and reinstated a lovely duplex to its former glory,” Pelling said.
