The young Panthers centre opens up about his tattoos, a controversial Instagram post, and trying to stop Stephen Crichton.

If Taylan May ever needs motivation, he only has to look in the mirror. Tattooed under his right eye in red cursive writing is one word – “pain”.

“I jumped on recently and saw this soccer celebration, so I thought why not,” May told this masthead. The NRL Integrity Unit and Penrith looked into the incident, but May was never sanctioned. The Samoan international understands why people were offended by the footage. “I’m back on social media now. I needed a reset. I’ll do it here and there. I’ll probably do it again. I don’t like to see all the negative stuff. I know that’s what comes with it.”May has been playing at left centre, which pits him against Canterbury captain and right centre Crichton at PointsBet Stadium on Friday evening.
