The Amazon film, which was completed in December and released in January, has been trending following the cricket icon’s sudden death. Vale ShaneWarne
“Shane and I were talking about, in 10 years’ time, doing something else that picks up all the bits we didn’t get to talk about this time around … It wasn’t supposed to be the final word on a life lived so large. It’s shocked us all.”
While Amazon, like most streamers, don’t reveal viewership figures even to creators, Dahill says there’s suddenly been “a lot of interest in the film”, including from local free-to-air broadcasters and international networks desperate to air it, even though Amazon holds exclusive rights in Australia and New Zealand.
Dahill first struck up a professional relationship with Warne in 2007, helping to set up the late cricketer’s interview with British talk-show host Michael Parkinson following Warne’s retirement. With his team at EQ, he spent two-and-a-half years on the documentary, recording seven different interviews with Shane over that time, plus his family and friends, including admirers such as Ed Sheeran and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
