Australian media titan Ita Buttrose is set to take over the reins as the new chair of the Australian Broadcast Corporation. 9News
Outside of the media, Ms Buttrose is the National Ambassador of Dementia Australia and a Patron of the Macular Disease Foundation. She is also an Officer of the Order of Australia, is an Officer of the Order of the British Empire and has been awarded the Centenary Medal.in September last year, after days of damaging allegations he tried to have senior journalists sacked after complaints from former prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull.
“I said, actually I should resign, because clearly there is a lot of pressure on the organisation,” Mr Milne told the ABC.“And it’s clearly not a good thing for everyone to be trying to do their job with this kind of firestorm going on. So, wanted to provide a release valve.” Mr Milne denied his resignation was an admission he failed to safeguard the editorial independence of the national broadcaster. Mr Turnbull also denied he pressured Mr Milne to sack anyone.
Mr Milne emailed then-ABC managing director Michelle Guthrie demanding she fire presenter Emma Alberici. News Limited last year claimed Mr Milne also ordered Ms Guthrie to get rid of political editor Andrew Probyn after a conversation with Mr Turnbull.Continue reading
