The Italian government has signed off on Australia's request to extradite Perry Kouroumblis, who was arrested in September in relation to the 1977 Easey Street murders.
He is wanted in connection with the murders of Susan Bartlett and Suzanne Armstrong on Easey Street, Collingwood, in 1977.An Italian judge needs to sign off on the extradition before Mr Kouroumblis can be sent to Australia from Rome, where he is currently being held in prison.The prime suspect in the gruesome Easey Street murders in Melbourne looks set to be extradited to Australia , after the Italian government signed off on the Australia n government's request.
"He's lucid. He's very attentive to what's being told to him, and he's prepared to face his trial in Australia," Ms Tucci told the ABC.Perry Kouroumblis has been told of the Italian government's decision to sign the request for his extradition to Australia."He had no idea he could be stopped and was surprised to be stopped for something that went back to 1977 in Australia. So he did not give any resistance.
Suzanne Armstrong and Susan Bartlett were stabbed to death in their Collingwood share house in Collingwood.Before extradition can take place, judge Aldo Morgigni from the Rome Court of Appeal, must grant final approval under an executive order.Once the extradition had been approved, Australian authorities have 15 days to transfer him from Rome to Melbourne.
"Anything can happen at this point. In fact, I told him today, any day could be your last day in Rome. So, I will try to get there. But if I am not, it can all happen very fast now. It's very fluid."
