They have faced a backlash from the public
This Morning has released a statement after Holly Wolloughby and Phil Schofield were condemned for seemingly skipping ahead of the queue to see Queen Elizabeth II lying in state. Thousands have been braving the cold and 24-hour waits along the River Thames to pay their respects to the Queen following her death at 96.
Even celebrity footballer David Beckham had been spotted conversing with those waiting in line, after he joined the queue for a lengthy 12-hour wait. However, Holly and Phil had supposedly jumped the queue, prompting outrage. But now This Morning bosses have released a statement. They said: "Hello everyone, we would like to clarify something. We asked Phillip and Holly to be part of a film for this Tuesday's programme."They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state - but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world's media to report on the event.
Holly and Phil's Friday show had been cancelled to make way for rolling news coverage as King Charles III made a trip to Cardiff in Wales. They will be back on air on Tuesday, September 20, where they'll reflect on the events of the funeral on September 19. The King will be leading his family in to Westminster Hall, marching behind the Queen’s coffin when it is moved at 10.44am on Monday to Westminster Abbey for the funeral service. He will walk with the Princess Royal, Duke of York and Earl of Wessex and behind the quartet will be the Queen’s grandsons Peter Phillips, Duke of Sussex and the Prince of Wales.
